KOCHI: Expressing solidarity with the protests in Kerala to resolve the Mullaperiyar dam issue, the Lakshadweep Students Association (LSA) came out to the forefront in Chappath. They demanded that the Tamil Nadu Government viewed the situation as a human rights issue rather than an inter-state dispute.
The LSA also sent letters to the Indian President and Prime Minister demanding asking the Central Government for a speedy and peaceful solution to the issue. The office-bearers of the association said that the state should not only reduce the increasing water level in the dam but also start working on the construction of a new dam at Mullaperiyar.LSA also condemned the Advocate General’s statement that the media was spreading unnecessary fear in the Mullaperiyar issue.  The media’s duty was not to cover the aftermath of a disaster but to foresee and portray its gravity in order to awaken the authorities concerned.
