KOCHI: The Lakshadweep Students Association (LSA) took out a protest march to the Office of the Lakshadweep Administration here on Saturday demanding solution to various problems. The demands include sanctioning of the pending scholarships to Lakshadweep students in a time-bound manner, recruitment to various vacancies in the Education Department, making the ships to Lakshadweep sea-worthy and ensuring allotment to various courses in the beginning of the academic year itself.
Around 60 students took part in the march. Lakshadweep Students Association former general secretary Koya Murthaza inaugurated the march. LSA treasurer Sabeeh Amaan, general secretary Deendar Hussain and Rahmathulla spoke. “After the march, talks were held with the secretary of the Lakshadweep Administration. He has promised to look into the issues,” the LSA leaders said

കൊച്ചി: അധികൃതര്‍ തെറ്റായ രേഖ നല്‍കിയതിനെത്തുടര്‍ന്ന് ലക്ഷദ്വീപ് വിദ്യാര്‍ഥികള്‍ക്ക് കോളജ് പ്രവേശം നിഷേധിച്ചു. ലക്ഷദ്വീപില്‍നിന്ന് സംവരണാടിസ്ഥാനത്തില്‍ പോളിടെക്‌നിക് കോഴ്‌സിന് പ്രവേശം ലഭിച്ച 20 ഓളം വിദ്യാര്‍ഥികള്‍ക്കാണ് അവസരം നഷ്ടമായത്.രേഖ നല്‍കാന്‍ മനഃപൂര്‍വം കാലതാമസം വരുത്തിയതിനൊപ്പം കോഴ്‌സിന്റെ പേര് തെറ്റായി രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയതുമാണ് പ്രവേശം തടയാന്‍ കാരണം. കേരളത്തിലെയും തമിഴ്‌നാട്ടിലെയും കോളജുകളില്‍ ലക്ഷദ്വീപ് വിദ്യാര്‍ഥികള്‍ക്കായി സംവരണം ചെയ്ത സീറ്റുകളിലേക്കാണ് ഇവര്‍ക്ക് പ്രവേശം നിഷേധിച്ചത്. കോളജുകളില്‍ കോഴ്‌സ് തുടങ്ങി അഞ്ച് മാസത്തിന് ശേഷമാണ് തെരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ട വിദ്യാര്‍ഥികള്‍ക്ക് സര്‍ട്ടിഫിക്കറ്റ് നല്‍കിയത്്.
കോളജുകളില്‍ ഒന്നാം സെമസ്റ്റര്‍ പരീക്ഷക്ക് ഫീസ് അടക്കാനുള്ള അവസാന തീയതിയും കഴിഞ്ഞാണ് വിദ്യാര്‍ഥികള്‍ കോളജില്‍ പ്രവേശം തേടിയെത്തിയത്. ചില വിദ്യാര്‍ഥികളുടെ സര്‍ട്ടിഫിക്കറ്റില്‍ കോഴ്‌സിന്റെ പേരിന് പകരം പഠിക്കേണ്ട വിഷയത്തിന്റെ പേര് ചേര്‍ത്തതുമൂലം കേളജ് അധികൃതര്‍ അഡ്മിഷന്‍ നല്‍കാതെ തിരിച്ചയച്ചു.
പ്രത്യേക കേസായി പരിഗണിച്ച് ചില കോളജുകള്‍ പ്രവേശം അനുവദിച്ചെങ്കിലും ഒന്നാം സെമസ്റ്റര്‍ പരീക്ഷ എഴുതാന്‍ കഴിയാത്ത അവസ്ഥയുണ്ടായി. ഏകദേശം 20 കുട്ടികള്‍ക്ക് പ്രവേശം നിഷേധിക്കപ്പെട്ടതായി ലക്ഷദ്വീപ് സ്റ്റുഡന്റ്‌സ് അസോസിയേഷന്‍ ആരോപിച്ചു.
കേന്ദ്രമന്ത്രാലയത്തില്‍നിന്ന് കത്ത് കിട്ടാന്‍ വൈകിയതുകൊണ്ടാണ് വിദ്യാര്‍ഥികള്‍ക്ക് കത്ത് നല്‍കാന്‍ വൈകിയതെന്നാണ് ലക്ഷദ്വീപിലെ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ ഡയറക്ടറുടെ വിശദീകരണം.
വിദ്യാര്‍ഥികള്‍ക്ക് അര്‍ഹമായ നഷ്ടപരിഹാരം നല്‍കണമെന്നാവശ്യപ്പെട്ട് പരാതി നല്‍കിയതായി എല്‍.എസ്.എ ഭാരവാഹികളായ തൗസീഫ്, ഹക്കീം എന്നിവര്‍ അറിയിച്ചു.

Colombo, Aug 31 (PTI) A Sri Lankan company, Colombo Dockyard, has won an order to build two passenger ferries for Laskshadweep island administration.This is a repeat order from India, the Colombo Dockyard said today.Last year the firm had delivered two passenger vessels, 'Arabian Sea' and 'Lakshadweep Sea', to the Union Territory of Lakshadweep (UTL) in India, a statement said.As per the new contract, the vessels will have the capacity to carry 400 passengers and 250 tonnes of cargo."These two new vessels will also be deployed to cater to the increased traffic en-route from the mainland (Cochin, India) to UTL Islands, as well as in the inter-island routes," it said."The enhanced passenger capacity is expected to ease the movement of passengers especially during peak season."The passengers will have different categories of accommodation with 10 first class, 40 second class and 350 normal class passenger transportation facilities," the statement said.At least 1000 Lakshadweep passengers stranded in Kochi

At least 1000-Lakshadweep bound passengers, including women and children, have been stranded here for the past few days with only three of seven vessels plying between the Union Territory and mainland rpt mainland operational. | |
| Most passengers are camping in front of the Lakshadweep office as hotels and lodges are expensive, administration sources said. Yesterday, police had to be called to control the angry passengers, sources said. Two ships, M V Amini Divi and M V Minicoy, which had been undergoing maintenance work since May 15, would start operations tomorrow, sources here said. These two ships are small and each can carry 150 passengers only, administration sources said. The three passenger ships plying now are M V Bharat Seema, M V Arabian sea and M V Lakshadweep sea which can accommodate 383, 242 and 244 persons and cargo respectively. Another vessel, M V Kavaratti, which is the biggest passenger-cum-cargo vessel plying between Lakshadweep and Kochi, has developed some technical problem, and is undergoing repairs.'Dweep Sethu', which operates between Kozhikode and the islands, does not ply during the monsoon. The passengers, including women and students,had to wait in queue for four days to get tickets. Passengers have also sent a petition to the Administrator seeking steps to get M V Kavaratti repaired as early as possible. Among the stranded passengers are those who have come for medical check-up to the mainland. Lakshadweep mainly depends on Kerala for medical facilties. Most of the student community are studying in the colleges in various parts of the state. With Ramzan and Onam festival holidays round the corner, the students are worried if they would be able to manage tickets to reach Lakshadweep. Air India operates three weekly services to Lakshadweep which has also been hit after a flight skidded off the runway on August 19. The services are expected to resume from August 30, AI sources said. Kingfisher is also operating services to the union territory. | |
